Sabeer Bhatia collaborated with a former Apple colleague, Jack Smith, to create HoTMaiL (the caps refer to HTML) in 1996. One of the first free webmail providers, Hotmail grew in popularity and was purchased by Microsoft for an estimated $400 million a year later.

Bhatia went on to found a number of new ventures, including Arzoo, which shut down when the bubble popped (he relaunched it in 2006). Last year he started Live Documents, an online office suite similar to Google Docs. This year brought both a marriage to Mumbai businesswoman Tania Sharma and the launch of his latest venture, SabseBolo, an online teleconferencing system. Bhatia’s most ambitious project is the development of Nanocity, a planned, sustainable metropolis in India meant to rival the innovation and technology of Silicon Valley.

Bhatia still uses Hotmail (or whatever Microsoft is now calling it) according to SabseBolo's CEO, Yogesh Patel, in an email to SAI.
