NOW: KIT digital CEO; ooVoo VP of Product Strategy

tuzman-herman.jpgKaleil Isaza Tuzman and Tom Herman are best known as the subjects of Startup.com, the 2001 film that documented their failed startup govWorks.com (trailer below). Although the film portrayed much conflict between the two friends during the company’s decline, they continued collaborating in later years on Internet television broadcaster JumpTV Inc., where Tuzman served as President and COO.

Earlier this year, Tuzman became CEO of the troubled Roo Group, the “online video solutions company.” The company has since left Silicon Alley to become KIT digital and, according to Herman, is “close to cash flow positive” (Tuzman was unavailable for comment).

Herman currently works on product strategy at ooVoo, a Web video chat company that competes with Skype. He also travels the world for speaking engagements at business schools, offering startup advice to students. “I’ve become a business plan magnet” [because of the film], Herman said in an interview with SAI. “People email me from all over the world with all kinds of ideas, but I’ve learned that the best ideas will fail if you don’t have the right people behind it.”
