Verizon: Don't Blame Us For Your Flaky iPhone!
Verizon Wireless, which passed up the opportunity to exclusively sell Apple's iPhone, wants you to know that it's very concerned that the latest edition of Apple's phone doesn't work as well as advertised.
Today's reminder, via a now-almost-daily iPhone-problems email from Verizon's public relations department: a Yahoo! Tech article noting that last night's iPhone software update didn't fix some users' problems with dropped calls, abrupt network switches, or poor reception.
But who cares! More constructive: The boldfaced introduction to Verizon's email, which would be best chanted through a megaphone at a hippie demonstration:
Monday's iPhone firmware upgrade didn't work and is causing new problems.
Why the secrecy?
Where is the recall?
Where are the refunds? Or maybe toss in a free ringtone and a couple months of free service?
So much for a "new" way of doing business at the old AT&T - your father's phone company.
For what it's worth, we're among those who've experienced sporadic problems with AT&T's network since buying the iPhone 3G. We haven't had enough time to judge whether last night's software has helped. But thanks for giving us strength and courage, Verizon!

Verizon's New Growth Business: Travel Advice

I'm happier with my Apple products than my Verizon ones.
Apple is innovating.
Verizon can usually provide me with DSL.
Have kept my word.
1. V-cast—Doesn't work on Mac
2. Uses Rhapsody? Rhapsody! #%*&@ Rhapsody!
3. You have to pay $15 per month to use V-Cast to manage your music. They don't have a way to automatically manage media unless you fork over the $15 per month.
4. Ringtones? $3!!!!! You wanna use your own ringtones?! HA! That's funny! (You can make a ringtone out of any song you want with GarageBand.)
5. I had to export my contacts individually to get them on my phone. Bluetooth is there but doesn't use the right protocol or doesn't understand vCards or something.
6. Ditto for calendar events
7. Oh sure, Verizon will let you back up everything online—for a price. We're talking about less than 1 meg of info here. If they are too lazy to write Mac software, fine, just let me drag it into the appropriate folder on friggin' phone for goodness sakes. (ditto for ringtones!)
People talk about how "closed" the iPhone is but it is child's play to load/syncronize music, pics, videos, ringtones, contacts, calendars, etc.
I'm kind of stuck with Verizon for now, but the end is near if they don't get their rear in gear.
All of the FiOS DVR firmware upgrades dodn't work and cause new problems.
Why the secrecy?
Where is the recall?
Where are the refunds? Or maybe toss in a free movie or two and a couple months of free service?
So much for a "new" way of doing business at the old AT&T - your father's phone company.
I say this NOT to be negative, but in hopes that execs will stop with the congratulatory slaps on the backs long enough to see the they're a communications company and the number one communication a customer is looking for is acknolwedgement of a problem, an apology, and a timely fix.
BUILT-IN BACKUP SYSTEM!:
If the faulty circuitry in the iPhone don't fail you, its locked-in battery will... guaranteed!
DISCLAIMER: Privacy... nah, you don't need that. Apple has the right to remotely remove any files it feels like from your iPhone, without your consent. For complete satisfaction, carry quarters and a map of nearby payphones. If you want your iPhone's battery to last beyond half a day, buy a second iPhone.
I would buy one, but I already have a brick in my wall.
Verizon = dead zones and dropped calls?
Considering where you are driving I'd say you're hitting dark areas for just about every carrier.
Verizon's network saturation is the best in the country, bar none. I'm not so gung-ho about Verizon's pricing and their customer service is kinda horrid, but I haven't felt the need to call them for the two years I've had my phone.
Now, if you take a look at AT&T's saturation it is horrid! Whatever you do, don't go to Vermont. They have just about zero coverage there. Verizon? Sometimes roaming, but I have service in the most unusual places...
Finally, I love what the iPhone is, but I think Apple did a disservice to itself and everyone else by requiring exclusivity.
Perhaps they're right that PC will mean Personal Communicator instead of Personal Computer and that it doesn't matter about trying to get buy-in to Apple, but in the meantime I see no reason to get the thing when I can't get service in many spots in the North Eastern US.
Even those who have other phones with wondergadget features, still want the iphone after seeing my iphone for a few minutes. They usually have one good excuse however, which is they cannot afford the pricey service from AT&T. They may not be able to afford it, but they still want one.
These digs against the iphone by other companies is just techno-envy.
