NBC Won't Show You Usain Bolt's Record-Setting 200 Meter Olympic Race. YouTube And DailyMotion Will

|

bold-200m.jpg

UPDATE: Looking for the clips of the 4X100M relay race? Try here.

The Michael Phelps show is over, but there's still plenty of Olympics worth watching. Like, for instance, Usain Bolt, who is now the world's fastest man. The Jamaican sprinter just competed in the 200M final, and you can read about the results everywhere (if you don't want to learn what happened, best to avoid the NY Times and every other site on the Web). But, of course, you couldn't see the race live on any of NBC's stations, and NBC wouldn't show the race live on the Web, either. Even worse, the reliable sources we'd been using to get real time feeds of the Olympics from other sources appear to have been snuffed out.

So right now your best bet to watch the race is to hope you get lucky on YouTube or DailyMotion. We just did: Enjoy these while you can, which likely won't be long. Once they are nuked, your best bet is to hit YouTube or DailyMotion and keep looking for the freshest video. Warning: Lots of spam there.

Our newest option, courtesy of a helpful reader, comes from the Swiss newspaper Le Matin:

Just FYI -

In the UK, we can see replays of almost every event on the BBC website. They have inline 'iPlayer' video replays. It's unfortunately the BBC has to region lock them due to the rights they have.

The BBC has also recently switched to H.264 so its videos actually play fullscreen *reasonably* well.

The BBC also have Michael Johnson on their punditry team. So fake your region and see the 200m and hear what MJ thought about it!

That sounds strange that NBC won't do that

I am SO glad SAI is passionate enough to blog about this and link to the video when no one else seems to think its a big deal. This morning I was so frustrated when I couldn't find the video - The one thought that ran through my mind: Fire the execs who made the decision not to telecast live events even on the web.

HmmConvenient (URL) said:
I appreciate that SAI covers this topic however to be honest since NBCU serves the advertiser not the consumer I am really, really not shocked. They have already booked/ sold revenue against their digital platforms so enhancements to the "experience" (especially when they are the only licensed output) must fall really low on the priority totem poll.

I am surprised that YouTube wasn't more aggressive in taking down that content... give it time...

Saw it on the CBC live - what's with NBC? Pathetic!

Looks like the YouTube videos are no longer available.

Seriously, haven't they already learned that people will watch it again at night when its broadcast in HD on a big freaking TV? there is no excuse for the US being the only country where you cannot see these record-breaking events in real time. no excuse. freaking pathetic.

i'm not surprised that a US station didn't show it, i mean they had an embarrasing show to say the least and had to protest to get second and third, and in their protest their own athlete who truly earned a medal got burned. Well thats jamaica for you we little but we tallawah: translation, we're that good.i think if they could protest bolt's win they would.. they'rethat petty

I will *so* watch this on a big screen tonight, so NBC wins there. But I'd also be very happy to watch at NBCOlympics.com until then. I just don't see why this is a difficult thing for them to process. Encore, DailyMotion!

Other persons online commented that we should switch channels since we are dissatisfied (disgusted) with NBCs' coverage after all their coverage is focused solely on Team USA. We would have gladly done so if they had allowed us to do just that. They have blocked everyone from posting it, and it was quite distressing especially last weekend not being able to share the enthusiasm and joy with those elsewhere who watched it Live. The BBC’s Olympic site does give live commentary. You may also get lucky with Eurosport live a good alternative; or Usain Bolts fan site on Facebook.
We (Jamaicans incl West Indians overseas) will be prepared to watch it live on this end of the globe next Olympics as we know what we are up against...
NBC can assure themselves that a significant number of web savvy viewers, and its safe to say, will find less in your face – unapologetic – positive commentary, un-biased options to enjoy the Olympic action Live with the rest of the world ELSEWHERE .

I am so annoyed with NBC, that I will NOT watch it tonight, in fact I am done watching the Olympics period. This should have been on LIVE this morning on TV and if not, they should have had it online.

I will wait until it gets to ESPN highlights or Youtube or somewhere else to see it.

We're sorry - this video is no longer available.

WTF.

And WHY THE HECK DOES SAI CARE? I am really annoyed with SAI's Olympics fever. Is there really nothing else to report about? That's sad.

Alex said:
Why bother putting this up. I dont come to this site to see your BS about olympic coverage.

Have you seen the race? It's awesome!

serious why would someone come here to comment on why SAI is providing these streams. these should be on nbcolympics.com but since they are retards, its only on french video sharing sites and swiss newspaper sites. i agree peter. sick race.

Is there a video of the 200M Womens semis? I know Bolt is the big news, but can you imagine trying to follow a cousin, Muna Lee, in the sprints.

It's been so fustrating!! NBC didn't even show some of her 100M heats. I'm not sure they'll show the 200M semis tonite.

Thanks, Jason. Literally just went to your site now and watched the CanalPlus clip, then DailyMotion shut it down. But man was it good! I don't get tired of watching that at all.

Seriously why are people complaining? PaidContent complained about this after the 100M. Its amazing how much the internet has changed people. In prior Olympics (even 2000 and 2004) when NBC, or others, didn't have a full website with replays and live streams, people didn't care that they had to wait till primetime to see the race on tape delay. Yet now people see it as a shame? We knew the results early then, we know them early now. Whats the big deal?

I did not watch the Olympics at all then (not one single minute) because of the lack of live coverage. My interest was renewed this year with all the China talk and me reading about how awesome nbcolympics.com would be. How disappointing that once again we Americans are treated as children, very dumb children at that.

I live in the Detroit area. I typically watch Olympic and Stanley Cup TV coverage on Windor's CBC station. I feel that American announcers tend to cast Detroit in a bad light; glorify other U.S. teams; and act as if no other countries in the world exist other than to fill the rest of the competitive fields. The Canadian announcers are much more balanced and evenhanded in their coverage. Don't get me wrong--they love to talk up the home team, but they are much more balanced and explore other competitor backgrounds. They also know the Olympics has more than gymnastics, swimming, track, and volleyball. You know, sailing, equestrian events, triathalon, rowing, etc....

Sorry. Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Not "Windor."

Typical American arrogance. This is the OLYMPICS.People want to see all the competitors regardless of what country they compete for. In America, the bias is solely towards American athletes. If an American was the fastest, he or she would be plastered all over the net and prime time. And they wonder why Americans are despised all over the planet.

AmericansRock said:
Hey NURREDIN. Why wouldn't Americans have bias over American athletes? Are you that naieve that you think Americans should be excited about other countries that can barely provide for themselves without having Americans provide money for the ungrateful peoples of their country? Without America you would never have been able to post your opinion on this site. GO TEAM U.S.A.!!!!!!

We get 3 sets of coverage where I live, and I just watch NBC for the laughs sometimes.

The time delay kills me, nothing like watching a man break world records in a marquee event like sprinting all 10hrs late when anyone with an internet connection knows the results.

The bias presented as news also gives me a good laugh.

They should cut the crap, not call it Olympic coverage at all, call it "covering Phelps, Phelps Mom and a few other Americans coverage" -as thats what it is.

If I was stuck with NBC coverage I would be livid. My sympathies to those who you that are.

I am sure the average insular type who doesn't ralize the world borders go past USA and thinks everyone hates them "for their freedoms" is more than happy though..they wouldn't want to see other people in the world excelling haha.

Scott said:
Gee, how do you expect NBC to air the race live? What a pathetic reach at a "story". This is almost laughable. And there is probably a good reason why most don't care to watch Usain.... HE'S CHILDISH, COCKY AND ARROGANT. I'm sorry, but sports purists like myself can't stomach watching athletes that no absolutely next-to-nothing about humility. And, yes, I'll even turn the channel on cocky American athletes as well and have done so in the past. If one cannot compete in a humble manner, then what is it worth for a sports purist to watch? I'm not saying the guy shouldn't be happy about what he's accomplishment, because it's a great feat that he has accomplished. But to pose, beat your chest, snuff off other congratulatory countrymen, etc, that is something entirely different and is absolutely unacceptable. The games are supposed to be about nobility, honoring ones country and other countrymen, comreadere, etc. Not pounding one's chest as to say "I am the ONE!". P-lease, I can do without that from any athlete.

Hey Lee... the so-called "time delay" that you're referring to, well, that is a natural "time zones". But, I would expect any intelligent human being to understand that... I mean, how can one possibly watch things in "real time" when the games are being held, well, 12 hours away? And what do you expect about the US coverage? Look at the Canadian coverage (where I happen to live, by the way) and tell me what is any different about their coverage? It's ALL about Canada and Candian athletes, which I expect from any country's coverage; but that's not going to stop me from watching it. But I guess it's allowed for Canada because they're not the hated USA, right? I would suggest putting a plug in that large hole in the center of your face. In doing so, you might end up being percieved to be a little more intelligent than what you actually are.

AmericansRock... great response! And even when the USA responds to world tragedies and such, they still aren't doing enough for the world. Even as we are giving the world more of our jobs (while Americans are suffering the worst unemployment rate it's ever seen), we still aren't doing enough to help out. What a bunch of ingrates.

Scott said:
Hey Ali.... What on earth are you talking about? Did you happen to catch Michael Johnson's response to Bolt breaking his record? You're another joke that has fabricated something out of nothing. Oh, by the way, in the states we are awarded the opportunity of purchasing whatever country's coverage one wishes to watch... via satellite. And I have been able to view a few different countries coverages and I'll tell you what, they're all slanted towards their athletes as well. But I guess every country in the world is allowed to celebrate its own heritage and athletes but the USA, I suppose?

Dont worry folks NBC's refusal to highlight other countries big wins in real time wont change the colour of the medals. The American sprinters have all been humbled and even put to shame.Did anyone notice the 'football style dive' one USA sprinter pulled off in a desperate effort to gain a medal,ha ha ha.Believe it or not NBC and THE MIGHTY USA cant stop LIGHTENING BOLT.Beat your chest again USAIN because you are the greatest.Folks look out for the USA in the next olympics they might just find a way to return to their dishonest ways. Thanks to those wonderful people who have put the breaks on the cheaters. Now that the playing field is level the US sprinters are in disarray. You can see the scare on their faces.
Time zone has nothing to do with the airing of the events,am in the Caribbean and I watched all the track and field events as they happened on CMC.

@scott are you forreal? like are those your legit opinions. you just made my afternoon with that nonsense. i am all for sportsmanship but you sound like jacques rogge (who is a joke) complaining about bolt. how about if you find one other person on planet earth who can run the 100 or 200 faster than usain bolt, then you chide his reactions. in the meantime, he looks like he is having a ball, having the time of his life over in beijing, and that is exactly what athletics is all about. if the other racers feel disrespected (and they all said they did not live on tv), then they should go try to train harder and beat him in a race. i assure you if bolt finishes second in a race, he will not have the same childlike wonder about him. lastly, what do you mean how can we expect things to air live? if the olympics were in the US, it would be airing live in China you moron. even smaller events like euro cup, when i was in china, people were regularly at bars for games that started at 3am and 4am, watching their fave euro teams. you are in no way a global fan of sports so please do not say anything negative about people who are.

It's sad to know Americans cant take defeat. Jamaicans work and train hard. Jamaica is an island in comparison to a lot of the big guns like America et. come on guys Americans crumble because there is no way they can perform taking drugs whilst the olympic is been held in China, as the chinese are so anti american. When Americans use to carry on with their arrogant behaviour no one complains. Leave Usain alone, he is only doing what every 21 year old do. Accept defeat Americans, the islanders whip your skin. Leave Usain alone all you haters and get a life. Americans are known for producing all the disgraceful sprinters which as tarnish the sport. Thank god for Jamaicans, they are taking the sport to another level. They shows that you can win and produce record been dope free. Americans cheaters let a lot of talented people get lost in the system. This answers the question to why the world smile when destruction strikes america.

Natasha Simpson said:
The person who mention about Usain being cocky need to get a life. I have two children and he is such an inspiration to the sport. They enjoy watching him. i reside in the UK, my daughter who has only been to Jamaica once says to me after waching Usain that she is going to be like him one day. He is such an inspiration to young people. He is talented funny and easy going. Look at the Americans attitude on the field it is disgusting and annoying. Not to worry 2012 is coming up therefore the americans can dope up again if london don't keep up the standards the Chinese has started. Americans and britain robbed a lot of countries of their riches, therefore if they are feeding them, it is full time for these countries to reap back their rewards. Come on guys this is sport why patronising an athlete because they are doing well, lets be happy for them and don't start the animosity between countries. What are we teaching our children, who is benefiting from all this, lets watch the sport and enjoy ourself. i pray god blessing on all who entertain and let them continue to entertain in the good name of the olympic. Bolt do your thing let no one stop you. Americans stop dope and lets keep the sports clean.

Natasha, you smile when "destruction strikes America," or you think the world smiles when "destruction strikes America" because of sport? I'm not even going to talk about jamaican girl 11.

That's the kind of thing that tarnishes countries and sport. You should be ashamed of yourself. Be proud of your countryman, but hold yourself to a better standard.

If you do that, you will help Jamaica elevate herself to more than just "the country where that runner came from." Because, right now, that's all she has.
