If Second Life Is Over, Someone Needs To Tell Cisco (CSCO)

Cisco is big on SL because virtual worlds are a huge potential market for them. They want to help the market grow, however they can, so they can sell virtual world makers expensive networking gear next year. That simple.

It's a ghost town for corporates who thought that just because their name was big in the real world it would actually mean something to those that live/play/work in Second Life.

The fact that 99% did very little to actually get involved with the social, creative and educational side of the 'game' just goes to prove how much the marketers really never grasped the essence of SL.

Frankly, the place is much better now without them.

Cisco, IBM, and a lot of other 'serious' tech companies have long seen their involvement way beyond just a simple commercial presence.

SL has never been the right place to market real world products or services but more and more companies and educational establishments are realising it's a great place to recruit, inspire, communicate and educate.

Now that the marketting frenzy and hype has died down I see Second Life expanding at a modest but steady rate.

I suggest you remove your glasses that sees things from a marketing perspective and look at it as a forum they use to have business meetings. The best way to think of it is to look at these two statements in a similar fashion.
