Who's Buying Blinkx? Google? News Corp?

|

blinkx.jpegShares of video search engine Blinkx are up 50%, fueled by rumors that News Corp. (NWS) or Google (GOOG) or... someone... will buy the London-based company. The market cap of the company, which is traded on Britain's AIM market, is now hovering around the $200 million range.

Blinkx is a weird amalgam of tech and features: We and many others think the company has devised a nifty search technology, but aren't convinced that its most recent move, to create a Joost-like video streaming service, makes a whole of sense.

UPDATE: Blinkx released a statement saying it is "not aware of any external bids or bid-related reason for the [stock] movement."

Maybe News Corp. Google --- no chance.

Why not? Price aside, we haven't seen any sign that Google has anything nearly as interesting in video search. Then again, perhaps that's one of the secret YouTube plans Eric Schmidt referenced recently.

how about a MSFT? Without a Yahoo confirmed acquisition, this would be a good play to boost their search capabilities, compared to google. Plus MSFT is hungry for a deal.

What does Blinkx have? No one uses the site. It has a bad UI, loads slowly and hasn't figured out how to monetize anything yet.

Well its logo is colorful, so is Google's, what more do you want?

How about SpinVox? Perhaps Tony Robinson knows they have some tech worth acquiring.

Which ever company is lucky enough to purchase
Blinkx is going to control online video advertising for a very long time simply because
the technology is way way better than anything
else around and is protected by over 150 patents
and as for monetizeing their technology just
click on Blinkx.com and veiw the amount of partnerships it now has within a very short time its very clear to me that everyone
wants their amazing search technology because this is the future of online search and i believe
Google ,Microsoft ,Yahoo ,News corp now Know this
to be true and would give any of these company,s
an amazing advantage within the online video advertising field to hugely increase their revenues.
Thanks Ellen.

Spoke with a very respected professor today at
my university and (Blinkx) came into the conversation regarding their Adhoc technology
and he commented that this technology is almost
the things of science fiction as the artificial inteligence can actually see and hear the data
and was Blown away by what this company is
achieving.

Thanks Ellen.

Why are the main search engines not jumping in
to purchese this company when surely it is
obvious this company Blinkx is going to be
a big player and would save them hundreds
of millions if they where to buy it now rather
than later.
