Starbucks Hands Out Free Web Access To AT&T Customers - Unless They Own iPhones

|

starbucks iphoneStarbucks (SBUX) starts switching to AT&T (T) for Wi-Fi on May 1. When those 7,000 stores switch from T-Mobile on Thursday, 12 million AT&T customers get free Internet – that is, people who have AT&T Broadband or AT&T U-Verse with high-speed Internet.

What about AT&T Wireless customers? They get squat.

Not a big deal for those of us who don’t have a super-cool Web browser on our phone. But if we had shelled out $400 for an iPhone (AAPL), plus another $60 a month for service, we’d be pissed.

I don't know where you are getting $60/month for service. The data service is just $20/month + the phone service that you would pay for any phone. If it is a 3nd ATT phone that phone service is just $10 + the $20 equalling $30.

Yea but if it's the first phone, which it would be for most individuals, they're probably paying at least $40 for the main-line service. Once you add data, that's $60.

But you're right, if you're on a family plan or something like that, it would be cheaper.

Access at Starbucks might be faster than Edge, but I already have data everywhere with my iPhone so I don't need to hang around a coffee shop.

AT&T and Apple get the power of collaboration and cross promotion. Not enough get it. Outside ideas are also an essential element for innovation.

iPhone users who have DSL with AT&T will also get it.

What happened to the 2hrs free at Starbucks for iPhone users if they have a coffee card?

This has nothing to do with Apple or iPhone. AT&T has been rolling out free wi-fi to their broadband customers.

I love to clog up the Edge network when I am near a AT&T hot spot. I can wait as long as necessary for a down load. This whole thing does not make sense to me. I can not get AT&T at home in my area they sold it to Comcast. Their are too many different hot spots to subscribe to one or another. For my needs edge is dial up slow but hay I remember dial up.
