Apple Taking Another Bite Of NYC: Looking For Office Space

We hear Apple is looking for 10,000 to 15,000 square feet of Manhattan real estate -- for office space, not another retail outlet. And they're not looking to go cheap: The company is looking in the heart of midtown, near their flagship 5th Avenue store at the GM building.

Unlike other Apple NYC real estate stories we've seen in the past, we're pretty confident about this one: It's from a plugged-in real estate source, who tells us Apple (AAPL) is about to submit offers. What we can't tell you: What Apple plans to do with the space once it gets it. Anyone want to hazard a guess? Let us know in comments below or via our anonymous tip box.

hmmmmm, if i were to take a guess i'd say this office will be dedicated to sales. think about it... why else did FB and Google decide to setup shop here? the question to ask now is sales to whom? they already have the mass market fairly covered, but this might be a move to take on the corporate world by replacing the all to standard dell workstations and blackberries.

That location screams advertising sales to me. Perhaps ad-supported downloads in addition to iTunes sales? An ad-supported video portal? They might be looking to evolve into as much a media company as a hardware company. Perhaps Apple wants to become like a hipper, upgraded Comcast or Time Warner. Those two companies are responsible for distribution (cable systems and agreements with content owners), hardware (the cable boxes they don't make, but supply to users), and content (the cable networks they own).
