Well here we go again more fanboy fun. "360 is better" / "PS3 is better" bla bla bla. This whole console war is over rated. Xbox has the XMB where PS3 brighter future and unbeatable hardware. If I wanted to download 1080i movies and watch them vs playing interactive blueray at 1080p then I would. The proof is in the facts and people don't seem to be doing any research just blabing about why they are right for their choice of systems. I have both systems and prefer PS3 mainly cause of the cult following xbox seems to be getting. Xbox has so much but if they loose playstation is the bad guy. I will be looking forward to the day of cross platform gaming until then.

Strange but my PS3 has had the ability to download mini games and even full games like warhawk or the upcoming gran turismo prologue from day one, theres new movie trailers every week on PSN and with the new update it'll also play divx files over 2gb.
I also have my PS3 connected to my mac through medialink and stream itunes, movies, photos etc with no problem. And with remote play I can then connect to my PS3 or mac and stream their content to my psp anywhere in the house over my private network or anywhere in the world through the internet and a wifi spot. Also I can remote play PS3 games like pixeljunk monsters on my psp should I want to use either of these devices for say a game whilst I wait for play tv to arrive and turn my PS3 and psp into a digital pvr that I can access anywhere.
Sounds like Sony really thought about this move and just keep laying down more aces.

Sony doesn't want to use digital downloads (for movies) because they want you to buy the movie on Blu-Ray, not because it would take to long to download. Plus the PS3 has been able to download games, and the like, since its release. The crucial bit of information missing from the article is the bit where Vranath points out that the update is for the Bluray system, updating it to 'BDLive' - the deeply unexciting prospect of being able to get mini-games and ringtones from the internet via a Bluray disc (or something like that, I stopped listening when they said 'download ringtones').

Of course the PS3 has been able to download games and trailers from the Playstation Network since day one. The point of this update is you'll be able to download not merely stuff from Sony, but from Sony's Film studios too... once you've bought the Blu-ray disc... um...

Blu-ray just won the disc wars and they're going to try to exploit it. Movie downloads are coming for the PS3, a better option would be to stream the movies instead of downloading them. I do not want to wait 1hr or more just to download a movie. Downloaded movies are nowhere near the quality of Blu-ray movies. If I had an option to choose which one of the two quality wise, I'd choose Blu-ray. I need something more substantial and hopefully when the price of a blu-ray disc coming down, the decision will be more obvoius.

Firstly, this update to download minigames and videos you speak of is for Blu-ray profile 2.0, which will allow you to pop in, say Walk Hard and download, I don't know, some deleted scenes or something, I don't know really. It was like that on HD DVD too.

The PSN itself is fully capable of full-sized games like Warhawk and SOCOM, and there are many 1080p movie trailers all of which are free downloads.

Someone needs to take your keyboard away.

If History has shown me one thing then it is this, firstly commenting on all the bad reviews, press and plainly bash the ps3 thats being going on since its launch, throughout history people have feared technological leaps look at the earo plane, when the a380 was first conceived everyone was bashing it as to big for this to that even the plain suffered massive delays and bugs.....yet every single airport even the one here in my puny small south african country has been preparing and upgrading for the eventual arrival of the beast plane a380...that said and how this ties in with the PS3 is exactly the same as the above everyone is bashing the ps3 even crappy journalist like this article, but why maybe it is fear that the tech that the ps3 is offering is so above all that people whom invested in a 360 want to play games and even are forced to pay a yearly fee for things that maybe now and then proof worth the monthly fee...yet here comes sony with a massive new tech bly ray that can put alot of interactive stuff on your blu ray disc that dvd cant support more so games like gran turismo open probably upscaled quality in game tv of episodic shows from top gear.......i have yet to hear any such activities on the 360....the wii is doing so good cause not only gamers are joining in the fun of gaming interaction....which to me is great and is exactly why the ps3 will become a format bigger than just gaming, as those who love games can use it as the benchmark console, due to alot of games is ported to the ps3 and exclusives to.....for the casual gamer theres a great web browser on the ps3 a multimedia devise with a hardrive that is so easily changeable unlike the ark that sits ontop exposed on the 360 and cost a arm and a leg for a merely 80gig.....further more there is the next best format of blu ray hd for movie lovers obviously with sony pictures,warner brothers whom will allow sony to incorporate exclusive content via download cause of the blu ray deal.....i can go on and on.....the point to all this.....if microsoft for once looked behind their coffens of money gathering selfishness they would like sony invest billions in developing a tech that doesnt say sure if i break replace me and my life span is only a few years.....they could and had the chance to really stuff sony because they were a year early on completing the 360 if they delayed it with six months adding all these other nitty small things they would have slaughtered sony, but greedyness once again took its toll....it launched a faulty cheap tech to the consumer thats closely priced to the ps3 and yet my xbox from day one the dvd drive opens flimsy, it freezes for no apparent reason, its a mission to connect my 360 to the internet.....yet came launch day for my ps3 i had 60gig of harddrive, i was connected instantly without downloading this or that..all my media is on my ps3 with tons of download conten.......thus the ps3 took longer slower with bugs but like the A380 it is slowely becomming the bench mark of what consumers want....thus the ps3 is slowely evolving but all these small add ons and small things will make this console the must have device because its going to be such an easy to use system whether your a gamer or a multimedia lover the ps3 replaces the need to move one bit cause you can watch movie....play games.....surf the web while watching almost any format of streaming meadia and with the abillity to download full games....hd trailers mods and so forth from day one.....its hard to believe that once again sony and its time travelling department knew what consumers would want eventually..the ps3 is still a bit ahead of its time here but when the next gen really starts taking off the rest will have a hard time to catch up, cause the ps3 is already there.....

the ps3 and xbox can download at the same rate cos its not about the hardware of the console its about the internet connection the console can recieve, the 360 can recive a connection up to 100mbps and the ps3 1gbps, so the ps3 can have the best downloads speed but the highest internet speed any1 has got is 20mbps, stop ur debating about each console cos wat i wrote is all fact and true.

I have both the PS3 and XBox 360. They both at this point will pretty much do the same things except for the blu-ray of course. I've streamed video through both and have been impressed with both.

The only things they really do differently is game play and even here each one has it's plus and minuses. A lot of which has to do with the game itself and not the platform.

I have yet to download any movies from xbox live mainly because I think they charge way to much for rentals. I could see maybe $1 a rental but they are charging as much as $6 bucks for some which is way too much of a rip off. There is no manufacturing cost and for them to be charging that much is robbery. I can go to blockbuster and pay $20 a month and get unlimited rentals with 3 movies at a time.

Why pay $6 to "rent" a movie when you can buy it eventually for less than $10 bucks anyway. The only way this kind of marketing will ever work is if they release content strictly to the console.
