Will Jerry's Departure Bring Microsoft Back To The Table?

steveballmerserious.jpgWill Microsoft revisit the idea of buying Yahoo in light of Jerry Yang's departure? Almost certainly. Will this lead to another Microsoft bid for the company? We doubt it.

We think Microsoft really did realy did decide last summer that it didn't want to acquire Yahoo. Jerry and Yahoo's board were part of this decision, but probably not all of it. Steve Ballmer will almost certainly reconsider the possibility of buying Yahoo now that a new CEO might bring a fresh perspective. But unless Yahoo pushes for a sale at a super-low price, we doubt he'll be aggressive about it.

A search deal, however, is a different story.  Any negotiations between Microsoft and Yahoo will likely be on hold until Jerry's successor takes control. But we then expect serious search-partnership negotiations to begin in earnest.

look, why brings in a new ceo just to sell the company? if any prospect ceo knows his/her sole mission is to have the company sold to msft, then who is really going to take the job? so i bet before jerry resigned, he probably has tried to open dialog w/ msft but either msft has shut to door permanently or they were stuck in some unsolvable issues.

so, jerry step down means no sale/transaction to happen w/ msft. just watch!

There was never a chance that M$ would integrate Y! without destroying 90% of the value. OK the talent has been leaving in droves anyway, but it would have been worse under microhoo. M$ would have replaced the server infrastructure, and wrapped up the content business in M$ management.

This whole fiasco points to the poor quality of leadership at both yhoo and msft. Ego are put ahead of shareholder interests and there is a total lack of trust. Look at the stock values since this joke started what less than a year ago. A yhoo acquisition at 41 billion makes sense but now at 20 billion it doesn't?
