MySpace Will Come Out With A Payment Platform (Maybe Before Facebook)
Facebook has been rumored to be building a PayPal-like micro payment platform for months now, but News Corp.'s (NWS) MySpace might beat them to the punch.
According to TechCrunch, MySpace COO Amit Kapur said today at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco that the company is working on virtual gifts -- à la Facebook -- and a payment platform that would be available to widget developers.
What's the point? Some widget makers think that a uniform, official payment system could be the key to making money on social networking sites. Why? It would make it easier (and potentially safer) for users to actually buy stuff. And the networks would win too, charging a fee on every transaction (à la PayPal).

Wow kids you can give some more money to the Rupert Murdoch media empire.
We have had a payment system in our social communication platform for months. You can read about it here http://adelph.us/alpha/the-blog/?p=51
We are going to challenge Myspace and Facebook in this space as well as others.
We think that members/content creators and the community should come first.
I am technology consultant, and this summer I became so feed up with the share cropper mentality of sites like myspace that I decided to build an application that shares the wealth that is created with the community.
Well the answer for me as advertiser, user and consumer is I find them both expensive and not relevant to what I want when I am there at a particuliar place at a particuliar time.
There has never from facebook or myspace been an offer to share the wealth generated by their users to their users, their users are their bait for their advertisers and the bait is going to wiggle from the hook when something better comes along....Lets pray its not to long before these two entities in their ivory towers that have grown so high finally look down and see that the cracks have become to big to repair....
Well, I will no longer use social website if they are going to charge a fee or I will scale down to one site instead of the four I'm currently using.
To your success and happiness,
Judy S. Jones
You don't get it.
It said "Come Out With A Payment Platform" it never said "It will charge membership"
That means, instead of using paypal, you will be using MySpace to send money within MySpace community.
If you don't buy anything, then you don't spend any money.
