MySpace Hires Away Another Yahoo Exec (NWS, YHOO)

myspace.jpegThe Yahoo exodus continues. Valeh Vakili, director of U.S. sales operations for Yahoo, is leaving the company to join News Corp.’s MySpace, as SVP of sales and strategy and operations, CNET reports. At Yahoo, Vakili was in charge of integrating the sales teams whenever Yahoo acquired another company, and at MySpace, she’ll be in charge of the account management team.

This is the third exec that MySpace got from Yahoo since July, when they hired Manu Thapar, former head of engineering, and Tish Whitcraft, who came on to MySpace as SVP of customer care.

Am I the only one who wonders how someone goes from a director at yahoo (really, not a high level role since everyone who has been there more than 3 years is one) to an SVP at Myspace? Says more about MS than Yahoo IMHO....

From what I have heard she was simply a finance person at Yahoo and no one on the sales team had any interaction with her. Good luck to the team that reports to her now, I also heard she's a nightmare in heels.

valeh was a very good business partner for executive sales management. she's smart and talented. as for the inflation of titles - there are many former managing directors of agencies, several CMO's of clients and other senior talent that come in to Yahoo at the director or senior director level. while i can't speak to title inflation at MS, i can attest to the "title shock" that comes when going to yahoo. it's the same at goog.

nice try, depressed titles. Phil Blunter is correct, she is an operations finance person who is awful to work for or with. Her only interaction with sales was to present pretty charts and spreadsheets she compiled after having her underlings run reports in yahoo's multiple, antiquated data systems.
