Chad Hurley Fesses Up: There's No Secret YouTube Revenue Plan

|

ChadHurley.jpgGoogle CEO Eric Schmidt has been talking about a secret revenue plan for YouTube since April. But what is it? YouTube founder and CEO Chad Hurley cleared up this mystery at a keynote he gave at a conference in Cannes, France. There is no plan. PaidContent:

“I always get the question, ‘where’s the revenue, when are you guys going to make money?’ I don’t think there’s going to be a silver bullet that answers all those questions - we’re developing a suite of solutions for people to be creative and see how the audience engages with those (different forms of) ads.”

very bad news for Google if they cannot find that silver bullet.

Not really, they took a gamble and it didn't come off. Google still makes a fortune on search.

I don't think it's fair to say "there is no plan."

It sounds like he's saying that there isn't a single silver bullet that will magically grow YouTube's revenues dramatically. That's completely reasonable, isn't it? They can grow to profitability with a variety of ad products. A "suite," if you will.

Wow, the dragon scroll finally unfurled. The secret ingredient of the ultimate noodle soup is... nothing! But will the dragon warrior go back to selling noodle soup?

Give me a break, the biggest news from this story is... absolutely nothing.

I respectfully disagree, especially since Google cratered over the last 24 months and are one of the worst large cap stocks in the market today. If they miss their next quarter earnings they will become a broken stock and possibly a broken company. The stakes are very high right now. I am *sadly* a fairly large (and long) stockholder and do not see a good picture emerging for them.

Then why didn't you sell?

not sure why anyone is still chasing chad/chen around for the future of youtube...

hello, they cashed in & they are probably just lucky that goog picked them... youtube will never ever become a serious business if it were not for google's engagement. so people should stop corning up these two poor fellas.

Why hasn't Google ever considered creating a robust media management platform that other Media entities could use to manage their video both on their sites and on Youtube (ie "Powered by Youtube) -

They could either a) charge for the premium media management or better b) they could keep it free, but end up with much more content on their site they could place ads against as well as the ads on the partner sites

Any thoughts anyone??

Maybe this month aint the best example; however do you think that News/Viacom/MS etc etc would not put up 1.65B to buy YouTube?
