AOL (TWX): Update on Next Week's Firings

|

Got a kind note from a depressed AOLer who is preparing to be fired next Wednesday, December 12, and would like us to be taking more notice of this. We wish we could! Unfortunately, some of our AOL moles were pole-axed in the October massacre, and management is doing a better job of keeping the details of this months' firings under wraps.

We have heard, however, that D-Day is Tuesday the 11th, not Wednesday the 12th*, so don't be shocked if your vacation starts a day early. We've also heard that next week's firings were planned way back in September, as the second part of a two-part purge, which also explains why there's less chatter about them.

In any event, word is the Products and Sales teams are going to take the brunt of the whackage. We regret to be the bearers of this bad news, and we wish everyone in Dulles and New York the best. (Know more? Help us give your colleagues a holiday heads-up by sending the details to tips@alleyinsider.com)

*UPDATE: Everyone's right! A helpful source adds the following: "Some groups will be affected on 12/11, but the majority will be on 12/12"

I work in Nisha's group, can you be more specific about who is going. Is it an entire dept. Does anyone have a potential candidate, a low hanging (rotten, useless, good for nothing) fruit. Who in Nisha's group is the most useless and unproductive of all?

If Bangalore is not affected this round it soon will be, my advice would be to jump ship soon. Several of my friends in Bangalore have already left because of the management failure in Dulles. No communication after layoffs, no direction by anyone up the chain, VP's are trying save their own ass and kissing up to every ass they can find. I hear from the people in NY that our executives here are making all sorts of promises that at first glance looks promising but in the end amount to nothing and has no real value/commitment. We're given busy work, cause management has no direction and their good for nothing, unimaginative directs do nothing but nod their heads in agreement.

Are you surprised about the layoffs, I read somebody said that TWX took AOL apart. No one made AOL merge with TWX. I would say both sides took the company apart. If AOL hadn't merged with TWX and maybe with high speed with a cable/dsl company that would have made probably kept AOL going? I left AOL after being there 7 years. The keyword left without being laid off, sometimes you have to see the signs. AOL is not the company it used to be but a mere stepping stone in most people's careers. I see somebody read about Karma, isn't ironic I guess Karma has come back on AOL when they tore up Netscape and I saw no AOL'ers complaining then. Businesses are here to make money for the investors, if a business doesn't make money then the executives will make changes even ones we don't agree on.(AOL will soon either be GOOGLE or Yahoo) The worker bees will always go first before the executives. Always treat like a business not personal unless you own the business.

AOL did some great things in the past before there downfall, remember that as a good memory.

Thank You

I went though it on Dec 16th last year keep your heads up and you'll make it like the rest of us have. Commi bastards don't deserve the employee's they have let go for past 3 yrs. TWX took a great company in AOL and sucked the life out and turned it into a turd. A shame but Karma will get them back just ask Enron's Old CEO

I can confirm that there are massive layoffs coming next week, however I can't confirm the exact date. I know because I've been told by my boss that my directs will be laid off. I can confirm that it is also going to hit analytical teams (AKA dead wood) under Nisha Kumar.
