Apple's $11 Billion iPhone Blunder Explained: It's Intentional!
In a "Bits" blog entry this morning Saul says he understands what no one else seems to: Apple's iPhone price cut isn't the act of a company that isn't meeting sales goals. Instead, he says, Steve Jobs is cutting prices because he now realizes he can sell lots of iPhones this Christmas if he sells them for less. Saul explains that Jobs has realized a month into launch that if iPhones fly off the shelves at $600, they will sell even better at $400.
Alas, this reasoning has not convinced the Street. Barron's Eric Savitz notes that Apple is down 9% since Jobs' Wednesday presentation, knocking $11 billion off the company's market cap. NYT, Barron's

1) The Barron's piece has nothing to do with the NYT piece, nor did I say it did. It simply notes that investors have been diving out of AAPL for two straight days since Jobs' announcement.
2) We are indeed making a guess that the iPhone is not meeting goals. We're using the same evidence that everyone else has used to make that guess, but as you point out, it is a guess. But our guess is based on Steve Jobs' actions, whereas Saul's guess is based on his words.
There are also the other Apple related stories over the last few days where, among other things, you stated that the "this price cut clearly wasn't planned" and that "iPhone sales are missing Apple's internal targets". Where you able to document the planning and/or the sales goals or was this info received via a Ouija board?
