Comcast (CMCSA): We Don't Throttle BitTorrent

Last Friday, we wrote about a post from TorrentFreak, which claimed that "more and more" of Comcast's (CMCSA) 12 million Internet subscribers were noticing slower or cut-off peer-to-peer BitTorrent transfers. The blog reported that Comcast was using a software application from a company called Sandvine to throttle BitTorrent traffic.

A Comcast rep says today that isn't true. While Comcast uses various technologies to manage its network, he says, the company does not throttle or block BitTorrent or any application.

That doesn't explain the subscribers' supposed slower connection speeds, but it's possible that the nature of cable modem service -- sharing bandwidth with other nearby subscribers -- and general Internet congestion could have played a role. And we still don't know how many people constitute TorrentFreak's "more and more," what exactly they're doing, or where they're located.

RCN started doing this a couple of years ago. I called them, and they calimed that all the EOFs/RSTs that were appearing in my traffic were being sent by "rogue clients" somewhere in the BT cloud. Bullshit, they were injecting them to block seeding. I dropped RCN. Why is there no class action yet against these ISPs for their bullshit lying overselling andthen sneakily overing it up with crapola and disinfo?

I am not sure where the PR man from Comcast gets his information, but for some reason Comcast server keeps reseting my bittorent connections every second so as not to allow a connection. Any person with a comcast account and a bitorrent program can test. Download sharkwire for free. Install then go to Capture Interfaces Options, press start. The programs captures all the network activity. With Wireshark in the background run your bittorent application. Wait until completed and watch Wireshark, notice when it finishes seeding comcast servers send out a reset command every second to your computer noted by the highlighted red line in Wireshark. It is 8:30 pm Monday pst and comcast is still resting my bittorent connections. Maybe the PR guy didn't get the email from the VP of Networking.
